Our very first Feature Friday goes to Kelsea Ballerini of the Black River Entertainment roster who has just released her debut single "Love Me Like You Mean It". We (Leah & Lauren) got to sit in on one of her radio tour stops at 94.7 WQDR in Raleigh, NC today where she performed four acoustic songs and we got to learn a little more about her.
From Knoxville, Tennessee, Kelsea began writing songs at age 13 to "deal with being an awkward thirteen year old" and just never stopped. At age 15 she moved to Nashville to pursue a career as an artist and keep developing her songwriting. There in Nashville, she finished high school, started college, and continued writing songs like crazy and growing musically. Last year at age 19, her hard work paid off and when she was offered a publishing deal with Black River Entertainment. Kelsea said that she knew her path to becoming an artist would start with songwriting and figuring out what made her stand out from other artists. The writers at Black River helped her develop her unique sound with sassy songs that you'll be singing in your head all day like "Dibs" and "Love Me Like You Mean It" along with heart wrenching ballads like "When I Think About You" and "The First Time". In December of last year, Black River Entertainment recognized her undeniable potential as an artist and gave her a record deal. Within the last year, she has signed a publishing deal, record deal, released her debut single "Love Me Like You Mean It", and most recently embarked on radio tour. It's been quite a whirlwind! Between her killer lyrics, infectious melodies, and quirky personality that translates into her performances, the girl is a star all around. You will be seeing a lot more of this young new artist very soon and we think you'll love her as much as we do!
