Top 7 Surprises Of CMA Fest

This year's CMA Music Festival was PACKED with live music on tons of different stages throughout Nashville. Everywhere you turned there seemed to be another star in sight or another huge crowd braving the heat and jamming out to the music. Some of the biggest stars even played surprise shows that they let fans know about via Twitter. You have to be on your toes at CMA Fest because you never know who is just around the corner! Here are some of the most surprising things I found at CMA Fest 2014. I already can't wait for next year!

1) Jamie Lynn Spears Packs The Plaza

If you haven’t heard Jamie Lynn Spears’ debut country EP, you definitely should check it out! She proved that she could please the country crowd on the last day of CMA Fest at the Bud Light stage. People were watching from open windows and balconies at nearby bars and businesses! The actress-turned-singer performed the songs from her brand new EP and gave a shoutout to her popstar sis, Britney, by mashing up her song “Miss Mississippi” with Britney’s “Oops!….I Did It Again” and the fans were LOVING it.

2) Dan + Shay’s Popup Show

Up and coming duo Dan + Shay teased fans via twitter with hints of a surprise show all day on June 5th until they finally let the secret out, tweeting “Okay, no more secrets! We will be playing outside the @NashvilleSymph at 3 PM today (rain or shine).  Come hang + meet us! #CMAFest2014”. Fans came swarming to the steps to catch a glimpse and the guys stayed to meet and take pictures with them! This was a big weekend for the duo who also made several other appearances including the Riverfront Stage and their very own fan party!

3) Hunter Hayes Surprises Fans With Impromptu Show

The “Storyline” singer surprised fans who were downtown with an unannounced show on the plaza of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center on Friday afternoon. He tweeted just hours before the show “Remember that pop up show we were talking about?  So... How's 4:30 ish? Cool? Sweet:)”. The fans showed up in HUGE numbers. Hunter also helped end CMA Fest with a bang on the last night with a killer performance at CMA Fest!

4) Little Big Town Invites Fans Over For Some Day Drinkin’

Joining Hunter and Dan + Shay with the surprise performances was Day Drinkin’ singers Little Big Town! They tweeted “#DayDrinking Artist Check-In by Lot S at LP Field. Address is 1 Titans Way at noon.” They gave 100 fans an exclusive look at their soundcheck at LP Field as well as a meet & greet with a little bit of day drinkin’. So cool!

5) Chris Young Cancels LP Field Performance

After Chris Young’s fan club party on Thursday evening, he damaged some tendons in his left hand while making dinner. Chris had to cancel his autograph session on Friday as well as his performance at LP field on Saturday night so that he could undergo an emergency surgery. Yikes! Feel better Chris!

6) Jason Michael Carroll Draws Massive Crowd

New music is on the way from Jason Michael Carroll and his fans couldn’t be more ready for it! After treating some lucky, dedicated fans to a special acoustic performance on Friday, he took to the Riverfront Stage on Saturday to perform some new tunes for thousands of CMA Fest goers. After his set, he came down to the crowd and signed autographs all the way up until the next act struck their first chord. Jason’s personable attitude mixed with his catchy new songs and dedicated fabase tells us that 2014 is going to be a big year for him!

7) Alan Jackson Plays The Stage

Alan Jackson proved that seasoned pros can still rock the honky tonks until the early hours of the morning on Thursday. He played a surprise show to a packed house at The Stage, one of Nashville’s most popular downtown venues. He even brought up Kacey Musgraves and LeAnn Womack on stage, just as you saw on the CMT Awards, to perform some of his hits.
